Art & Music
OVERVIEW
In fine arts courses students develop an appreciation for the arts of various time periods and cultures. In addition, students develop skills to produce original works.
MAJOR COURSE OFFERINGS
Music Appreciation--introduces production and performance, terminology, idioms, and elements of music, perceptive listening and appreciation. Students develop the ability to speak and write about music, and to become literate consumers of music.
Intermediate Band--increases performance skills and precision on wind or percussion instruments. Coursework includes: analysis and theoretical study, historical style and cultural influences and contributions.
Advanced Band--further refines performance skills. This course stresses individual progress and self-paced projects as well as ensemble experiences.
Choral Ensemble--provides opportunities for performers to increase skills and knowledge in group choral singing.
Orchestra--provides opportunities to develop performance skills and precision on orchestral stringed instruments.
Visual Arts/Design Fundamentals--introduces art history and criticism, aesthetic judgement, and studio production.
Art History--introduces art history through works from antiquity to the present. This course emphasizes the relationship between history and art.
Advanced Art--includes in-depth studies in one of the following areas: painting, drawing, ceramics, pottery, fibers, print making, design, and sculpture.
